I know cars are always a bit more in Canada but $11K more is Ridiculous! That's 50% more than the USA.
CANADA:
USA:
I'm not looking to buy a I-MIEV but at least at $23K I could consider it since it would meet my daily driving requirements.
The $23K is before incentives so the yanks can have this for as low as $15.5K. where in Canada the very best case is $26K after $8K rebate if you live in Ontario or BC.
Me being in Alberta it's $34K with no rebates available.

Might have something to do with the US's EV incentives.

You have to buy 11K worth of Monopoly board games to get enough Monopoly money to buy it in Canada.

Read disclaimer #9. It's the price after incentives.

Buy one in Ontario or Quebec and get $8000 off the price in tax incentives, almost works out even.

Last time I saw one it was about $34K here.....I laughed and laughed and kept on walking.

actually the disclaimer list the price as before rebates. it's only $15.5K after rebates.
You'd be crazy not to buy one at that price.

Yes but imagine if it was $23K MSRP and you could put an $8K rebate on top of that it would only be $15K

Holy fuck, that really is a steal. At that price I'm actually surprised they're not selling a whole load more than they are.

that's what I'm trying to say. At $23K + rebates I would go out and buy one today.

I'm agreeing with you :)
Same if I could get one for £10k here. The fuel savings would probably match or exceed the depreciation, so effectively it'd be a free car.

I like free cars! what a shame.

A CarMax close to me has one, and it is still pretty highly priced, in my opinion. CarMax warranty for the battery and stuff?

Ouch, look what happens when I make a claim without checking my work!
I wonder why streets aren't filled with these things!

wow that's a good deal. 15K straight up is way better than 23K with a government $7500 tax rebate. Honestly at 15K this car would pay for itself.
$7500 tax rebate is not the same as $7500 off MSRP.

Same here! at that price it's a damn bargain.

It is, but the imiev is £24k here after the government rebate, so miles away from that. If they could manage to sell it for anything like £10k, they'd be selling by the thousand here in London.

Yikes that's over $40K USD! How much is it before the rebate?

I mean, I do have one guess, and that it's that they used to be truly awful to sit inside.
I mean, my benchmark for awful is and will forever be the first gen Chevy Aveo. But the i-MiEV 's interior has always left a bad taste in my mouth. It's as if Mitsubishi engineers sat in an Aveo and thought "this is too luxurious" and made it worse.
The 2014 Model Year is so much better as they completely revamped the interior. My only complaint now is focused on the absolutely stupid locations for the factory iPad Mini option. The ones in the rear seats aren't really secured and could be dislodged from bumps or by dishonest hands. And the one on the dash? So huge it's most definitely a safety hazard.

I think it's about a £5k rebate, so nearly £30k. A lot of that is taxes, and also a bit for fees that US customers also pay but which aren't included in the headline rate in the US.

YIKES again! that's over $50K USD before rebates and I thought canadians were being ripped off but turns out it's you guys that are really being taken for a ride.
![]() 06/02/2014 at 14:21 |

Well, it's not like anyone here's actually bought one :)
![]() 06/02/2014 at 14:25 |

I can see why and yet Mitsubishi is still probably scratching their head trying to figure out why nobody is buying one.

Tax credit is a pretty big incentive.
